Complicating the simple

I just wanted to find out the best way to boil split peas, so I went to a recipe site and found this one had 629 variations on traditional pea soup.
The cooking method varies from soak overnight to use a pressure cooker to get them soft in 20 minutes.

Then we have the ingredients all the way from left over ham to lamb and shrimp.

So basically we're using:
1-bag split peas
2-diced ptatoes
2-3 sliced carrots
1-med. onion chopped
1 1/2< LB of ham
Water as needed

Spices are -to taste:
salt
cracked black pepper
cumino
red pepper
garlic powder

Start with just peas at a rolling boil then covered tightly and simmer for a good 45 minutes, then add the rest and simmer for another 45 minutes.

serve and add croutons for something you'll be able to afford in this Obamaconomy.
